2021 Genesis G90 vs Mercedes-Benz S-Class Highland Park
In a head-to-head contest, which model comes out on top, the 2021 Genesis G90 or the Mercedes-Benz S-Class? You might be surprised at just how well the G90 can compete with luxury sedan segment leaders like the S-Class. Check out our comparison guide to learn more.
Price Range: 2021 Genesis G90
One of the best reasons to choose the G90 over the S-Class is price. The Genesis G90 is powerful and handsomely equipped, but it also gives you high-end performance at a very competitive rate. The entry-level 2021 G90 3.3T Premium model starts at $72,950. And the fully loaded 5.0 Ultimate model starts at $79,200.
There are five 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class trim models. Each adds a more powerful engine and a longer list of standard features. The entry-level S-Class starts at $94,250, and the top-of-the-line model starts at $151,600.
Performance Options: 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The S-Class sedan is available as five trim models, and each model has its own powertrain. The entry-level model is a pretty good match for the G90 base engine; it’s a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 rated for 362 horsepower. As you move up the trim levels, though, the S-Class starts to leave the G90 in the dust. You can even equip this luxury sedan with a high-performance turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 that makes 621 horses.
Instead of five engine options, the Genesis G90 gives you two. But both are pretty impressive, providing the kind of smooth, powerful ride that luxury shoppers crave. The entry-level turbocharged V6 gets going with 365 horses, and the available V8 engine is even faster, with 420 horses.
Richly Appointed Cabin: 2021 Genesis G90
If you’ve never cruised in a Genesis luxury sedan, you might be surprised at just how classy the G90 actually is. Every model comes standard with your choice of Nappa leather upholstery, with four available color options. And high-end comforts, like tri-zone automatic climate controls, power side and rear sunshades, and heated and ventilated front seats, are also included at no extra cost.
To get the same levels of modern comfort in the S-Class, you actually have to spend more money. And, as we know, the S-Class already starts at a much higher price than the G90 to begin with. But the S-Class does feature some very swanky standard features, including a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and an air-ride suspension that automatically adjusts ride height.
Tech & Safety: 2021 Genesis G90
The Genesis G90’s tech lineup doesn’t miss a thing. Compared to the S-Class, it comes with a much longer list of standard safety aids, including a 360-degree camera system and a blind-spot camera. You even get a heads-up display, which projects stats on the windshield so that there’s no need to check the digital gauge cluster. The 5.0 Ultimate trim model even comes with a rear-seat entertainment system, something you don’t often see in the sedan segment.
Like the G90, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class includes all the latest infotainment gear, such as navigation and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The two luxury sedans even have the same size infotainment touch screen, coming in at 12.3 inches. However, the S-Class doesn’t offer quite as long a list of standard safety aids, though it does give you blind-spot monitoring and frontal collision mitigation.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is undeniably luxurious, and it comes with plenty of name recognition. However, it’s the 2021 Genesis G90 that gives you the most luxurious drive at the most attractive price point.
