The base G70 2.0T offers 252 horsepower from their turbocharged 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine attached to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It will get you around town in comfort, but we strongly suggest the upgrade to the 3.3-liter V-6. It rockets the horsepower up to 365 with 376 lb-ft of torque and you can feel it when propelled to 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds.
Lexus offers a more powerful base engine for the ES350 boasting a 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 302 horsepower which is also connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is no performance option here, and the best 0-60 time is 6.1 seconds.
Lexus does offer an exciting alternative option which trades raw performance for longevity and an ease at the gas pump. The Hybrid ES350h uses a custom CVT paired to a front wheel drive which puts out 215 horsepower. Drivers looking to win at the track, look elsewhere, as the 0-60 moves to a leisurely 8.1 seconds. The upside is the improved fuel economy going from 22/32 mpg to 43/44 mpg.
Luxury Styling: Tie
Genesis updated appearance of the 2022 G70 with tweaks to the front, rear, and interior with a larger, more polished infotainment system. The G70 has a more athletic look and polish to the more conservative ES350.
Lexus recently updated the presentation for the current generation (2019 - Present), and they made only slight tweaks to include a bolder grill and more aggressive styling for 2022. Both sedans offer amazing curb appeal though choosing a clear winner is difficult as luxury can mean very different things to different people.
Technology & Safety: Tie
The Lexus brand has long been synonymous with safety and standard on all ES models is their Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. The emphasis has been on driver assistance and includes enhanced detection of both cyclists and pedestrians along with a blind spot monitoring system, and automated emergency braking protection.
The G70 also comes standard with multiple driver assistance features such as forward collision warning paired with automated emergency braking. Further, Genesis features stop-and-go technology with their adaptive cruise control making the daily drive safer and less stressful.
Maintenance and Warranty: 2022 Genesis G70
Genesis has long been known to offer one of the best warranties available in the market segment besting the next best in class Lexus. It goes one step further in each section by offering additional years and additional miles.
Where Lexus bumper to bumper warranty offers 4 years or 50,000 miles, Genesis offers 5 years with 60,000 miles. Powertrain warranty offers similar improvements: Lexus offers 6 years or 70,000 miles to the Genesis 10 years or 100,000 miles. With the G70. you don't even need to worry about scheduled maintenance costs for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles compared to the 1 year, 10,000 miles for Lexus.
Luxury vehicles should offer luxury amenities, and when it comes to peace of mind the 2022 Genesis G70 is the clear winner.
The Genesis G70 and Lexus ES350 both offer compelling luxury at near entry level prices, the Genesis pulls ahead with the optional 3.3T and enhanced peace of mind offered by their maintenance and warranty coverage. It comes in with a lower sticker price, better performance, and superior protection
